Who the Hell We Are

Kaleidoscope started out as one man's mission to make damn sure that his voice is heard. After several explosions of popularity in which several tens of people visited his site in a short time, this man wanted to further his mission and expand his blog by allowing his fellow comrades to take part in this subtle, but not humble, revolution.

In all seriousness, or as much as there needs to be, this site is named Kaleidoscope not just as a tribute to my favorite short story (written by Ray Bradbury) but because my goals are to exhibit a multitude of perceptions of a singular reality, to bring light to different ways of looking at the same thing, and to discover far more than we ever thought possible. This can only be done in discussion, and having multiple writers endorses such an activity. So here are little bios of the contributing writers, which hopefully should increase.

-Dan

Dan LaTourette
The founder of the most important blog no one has ever heard of. This will be short and sweet since Dan has been writing here for over a year now so my interests in such are all in my posts. He is doing a fifth-year entrepreneurial program at the University of Rochester, which he will be getting a BA in film production. His passion is for film, but close behind are video games and music. He hates to look at things superficially and is a huge endorser for video games as art. Dan believes that if we find certain techniques and patterns in video games, then there is a way we can discuss it in the same way we discuss other art forms. He is in the process of compiling a list of essential games that can be regarded as artistically important (yes, important). In terms of music, he is an avid blues fan and loves to sing it (as best he can) but loves to sing soul as well. Dan is a die-hard fan of the group Mofro, who know one has heard about, and has become the self-appointed preacher of the brilliance of the group. He does not care for any monetary compensation.

Pete Berris
It has been said that a man is the measure of his interests and endeavors.  If that is the case, than Peter Berris is a political scientist/artist/pianist/guitarist/song-writer/writer/illustrator/cartoonist/outdoor enthusiast/collector/radio DJ/occasional actor/casual comedian*/heir to a pie dynasty.  Obviously the label leaves something to be desired due to its rather cumbersome nature, but it is somewhat apt for displaying the range of activities in which Berris is frequently engaged.  While his morning may be defined by rigorous academic pursuits, by midafternoon Berris may be out hiking through one of Southern New-England’s scenic  forests, and late afternoon may find him strumming away on a Martin dreadnaught  guitar.  Over the years, this rather eclectic range of competing interests has yielded  some interesting products.  Berris graduated with a B.A. and majors in both Political  Science and Studio Arts from the University of Rochester with highest honors in the former, and highest distinction in the latter.  His debut album of original songs, entitled “Silver Screen Dream” was released in March 2013.  A collection of Berris’ paintings and illustrations were recently displayed in one of the University of Rochester’s Galleries, and approximately fifty cartoons and a handful of articles appeared in his college newspaper.  He played guitar and piano in the campus blues band, and took piano lessons at the Eastman Community School of Music.  Information about many these activities can be found on his website, www.peteberris.com.

Berris looks forward to contributing to “Kaleidoscope” as time permits, as it is the perfect venue to comment on his wide range of interests.  In fact, just mark it up as another one of his many pursuits.  That’s right, Berris is now a political scientist/artist/pianist/guitarist/song-writer/writer/illustrator/cartoonist/outdoor
enthusiast/collector/radio DJ/occasional actor/casual comedian/heir to a pie dynasty/BLOGGER.

Jerome "Jerry" Hoke
Jerome Hoke is a graduate of the University of Rochester in Ecology and Environmental Biology. He grew up in the cultural hotbed of Columbus, Ohio, a place that he largely missed out on due to an inexplicable period of deep apathy in his formative years. Therefore, he is largely a shell of the man he could be. His platitudes are stale and his assertions are banal. Entering his 20’s, his friends and family all generally gave up on him, hoping that his lame ass would stop cramping their style. Moreover, his inability to grasp the point of this bio and paint a positive image of himself will likely cause a bad first impression.

Juan de la Guardia
Hello, everyone! My name is Juan de la Guardia, but you can call me Juancho. Dan asked me to write a few articles for the blog, so I’ll try to come up with some interesting stuff for you guys. I’ll mostly write about video games, but maybe I’ll also mention books I’m reading, TV shows or movies I’ve watched, general
Internet culture, and life in lovely Panama City, Panama. See you around!
